Somalia's Health Needs

Somalia's Health Needs

Somalia, with a population of 15.4 million, is a low-income country. In terms of health, the main issues facing the population are communicable diseases and respiratory infections, and issues relating to maternal and child health-related morbidities and nutrition.

Healthcare provision in Somalia is a patchwork of solutions. While the situation has improved since the war, services are often expensive and, unfortunately, not entirely trusted by the public. Less than 30% of Somalis have access to health services and only 11% of children receive basic vaccinations.

SMA group aims to mobilise medical professionals in the diaspora to improve access to quality health care in Somalia.

We work with both Individuals & organisations.

We have passionate, dedicated, professional and active teams on the ground in Somalia who are able to apply rapid response directly to the beneficiaries & those most in need.

Due to regional security issues many organisations are unable to support underserved regions. Our local teams have access and are able to facilitate on the ground.
